Luã Almeida started his studies when he was 10 years old and has the piano as a main instrument. Undergraduated in Composition for the Federal University of Bahia (Universidade Federal da Bahia) and a Master’s Degree for the same institution, he has participated in courses and workshops with great referential names, such as Ian Guest and Chick Corea. In 2016, he earned the Funarte Prize of Classical Composition (Prêmio Funarte de Composição Clássica) and also the Caymmi Prize (Prêmio Caymmi) for the best instrumental music. In 2018, he was awarded with the best arrangement for an instrumental music at Educadora FM radio station and, in 2019, he had his piece “Soteropolitana” as the winner of IV Composition Competition of the Gramado Festival in Concert. As a pianist, he has participated in the Youth Orchestra of Bahia (Neojibá), Sanbone Pagode Orchestra, as well as he’s already performed with the symphonic orchestras OSUFBA and OSBA. In 2020, he was awarded with Funarte RespirArte Prize with the arrangement for Ary Barroso’s "Na Baixa dos Sapateiros" on solo piano. And, in parallel with the works as pianist and arranger, he’s started a project of musical transcriptions focusing on Brazilian music, which earned him the Funarte’s Bossa Criativa Award 2020.
